KUCHING: A middle-age villager in Lundu near here maintains a stoic composure over the circumstance of his two children who are among 47 Malaysians currently being detained in a prison in Cambodia.

Nevertheless, Golip Gindip also expresses his hope that the Malaysian government will do what it could to bring home his children – Gibson Golip, 22, and Grevina Golip, 23, who are now in a Cambodian prison together with 45 other Malaysians.

“Which father who does not worry about his children? I really hope that the Malaysian government could help and bring them back home safely,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Golip, who is 52 and lives alone in Kampung Raso, said he first heard about the news during a phone call with Gibson two weeks ago.

“He contacted me two weeks ago, informing me about the arrest by the Cambodian police. Since then, I have been feeling very uneasy, worrying about their fate over there.

“My son did call me again yesterday (Thursday) and told me that he and his sister were both healthy, but they’re still in jail. Nevertheless, they asked me not to worry too much, and for me to keep myself healthy,” he said.

Currently unable to do heavy work due to his asthmatic condition, Golip said he could only do some light works in the village.

It is learnt that Golip’s wife and eldest child had passed away.

According to Wisma Putra, all 47 Malaysians – 44 of whom are Sarawakians – are suspected to be involved in illegal online gambling activities.

It is reported that they have been detained in Cambodia since Dec 11 last year.
