KUCHING: Trainees of Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) will have the opportunity to gain real-life working experience in mechatronics for a period of two years at One Medicare Sdn Bhd, which is a support service provider for 23 government hospitals in Sarawak.
The 12 selected trainees were introduced during an official signing ceremony at One Medicare’s headquarters recently.
This apprenticeship should complement the trainees’ theory-learning in class and would enable them to acquire real-life working experience.
“Throughout their training, the students will gain invaluable practical experience under the guidance of our technical and managerial staff members, seamlessly introducing them to the
world out of their classroom,” said One Medicare chief executive officer Sazali Tuah Neli.
“It is a great honour to be chosen by PPKS for this partnership. We welcome the opportunity to share our experience with the students and this partnership is the perfect platform to introduce (to the trainees) the various fields, including mechatronics, needed to ensure that hospitals would receive the best support services to them.”
“To be part of the rapidly-growing industry, we also look forward to the knowledge-transfer that we will gain from these trainees to further improve our services,” he added.
Similarly, International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) chief executive Mohamad Isham Fauzi said the industry-relevant curriculum of the Malaysian Meister Programme in Mechatronics combined modules from two countries – Germany and Malaysia.
The combination of technical and vocational education and training (TVet) systems of both countries would prepare the trainees for exciting careers within Malaysia and abroad.
The programme is fully funded by the Skills Development Fund Corporation. This should serve as a good opportunity for those planning to expand their skills, including working adults who have completed the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 3 in related fields.
During the two-year apprenticeship, the trainees will continue to attend classes (theory and practical components) at PPKS Tabuan Jaya Campus.
Upon completion of the programme, the trainees will be awarded with the Malaysian Skills Advanced Diploma Level 5 in Industrial Automation Engineering Systems Development by the Skills Development Department (JPK) and Malaysian Meister Certification by Handwerkskammer (HWK) Aachen, Germany.
Under the PPKS-One Medicare collaboration, trainees from Malaysian Meister Programme in Mechatronics will be based at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching and Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan throughout the duration of their apprenticeship.
