SIEM REAP, Cambodia: Julau MP Larry Sng said today that all 47 Malaysians presently being detained in a Cambodian provincial jail were “being treated well”.

During a post-prison visit interview, he said the head of the prison even forked out his own money to buy food for the group of Malaysian detainees.

“They (Malaysian detainees) are provided food and the head of the prison even comes up with his own money to buy food for the detainees.

“Their welfare is being taken care of. They are well treated although some may have skin rashes. Apart from that, they are all hopeful to come back to Malaysia as soon as possible,” he said.

He is leading a delegation comprising two affected family members and media practitioners to visit the 47 Malaysians who are being held over their alleged involvement in illegal online gambling.

Sng pledged that the Malaysian government is doing its level best to secure the release of these 47 Malaysians.

He said he had informed the 47 that most of their parents had expressed their concern over their situation in prison, and that they “are desperately seeking details”.

He said he would keep those affected families in the loop (of the situation in prison) once he returns to Malaysia tomorrow.

“After this, I will go back to Malaysia tomorrow. I will arrange a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) together with some family members to talk about the actions that can be taken through diplomatic channels.

“I will also be in touch with Wisma Putra (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to see what they can do on their part,” added the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) lawmaker.

Sng said they are hoping and praying for the immediate release of the 47 Malaysians.

“But in the event that this issue is prolonged, I believe there will be subsequent visits,” he added.
