Welder fined RM7,500 for drug-related offences

MIRI : A welder was fined RM7,500 in default 11 months’ jail by a magistrate’s court here after he pleaded guilty to two drug abuse charges

The court also ordered him to undergo observation by the authority concerned for two months.

Bong Kueh Yung, 39, from Quadruplex Permyjaya here was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15 of the same act.

The offender can be fined up to RM5,000 or in default two years’ jail and will have to immediately undergo an observation under Section 2 of the Drug Dependency Act (Treatment and Rehabilitation) 1983 for two to three years under Section 38B Drug Dependency Act, 1952.

For the first offence, Bong was found guilty of taking amphetamine and methamphetamine at noon on Jan 9, 2017 at the office of Narcotic Crime Investigation Division here.

For the second offence, he was found guilty of using the same drugs at 7.50pm on Jan 23, 2018 at the same venue here.

Bong pleaded for leniency, saying he’s a single father with three children.

He was fined RM3,500 in default five months’ jail for the first offence, and RM4,000-fine in default six months’ jail for the second offence.

Insp Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted in Zuraini Ali Musa’s court, while the accused was not represented.

In a separate court room, Bong was fined RM2,800 in default four months’ jail for committing similar offence.

Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad also ordered him to undergo observation by the authority concerned for a period of two years.

Based on facts of the case, Bong was found guilty of abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine at 10.50am on Dec 13, 2018 at the office of Narcotic Crime Investigation Division here.

He was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of Drug Dependency Act, 1952.
