Anti-theft metal bars for motorcycles under-utilised

SIBU: More than 10 anti-theft metal bars for motorcycles have been installed in Sibu Jaya, but it seemed that the facilities are under-utilised, said Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai.

“As such, I urge bike owners to make full use of the anti-theft metal bars to safeguard their motorcycles.

“The council will conduct more extensive study in the future on strategic locations to install the bike-locking facility,” he said.

Sempurai pointed out that the current feedback from bike owners indicated that the said facility is not located in strategic areas such as near supermarkets.

“But I beg to differ as it is just a short walking distance from shopping centres,” he said.

“The public may feel it is a hassle to bring along a padlock and chain their bikes to the metal bar but it is better to go through the trouble of double locking their bikes than risk losing their property,” he added.
