Police cripple drug trafficking ring, three suspects arrested

KUCHING: A raid by the State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) on the night of Feb 16 at a house in Taman Goodland, Betong have crippled a drug trafficking ring which was active since 2017.

State NCID head Supt Sahar Abdul Latif said following the raid, police have arrested three suspects and seized 95.31 grammes of crystal-like substances believed to be Syabu worth RM14,296.50 and 90 capsules of Erimin 5 pills (RM2,700) from the suspects.

In a press statement today, Sahar said the suspects arrested were two men who are 36 years old and 39 years old as well as a 24 years old woman. All of the suspects are from Sibu.

According to him, the drugs were found in one of the bedrooms on the first floor of the house where 53 plastic packets containing Syabu and 90 Erimin 5 pills were found.

A body search on one of the male suspects also found one plastic packet of Syabu weighing at 0.7 grammes in his pocket while the female suspect was found with two plastic packets of Syabu weighing at 0.5 grammes in her possession, Sahar said.

He said the total seizure of drugs is worth RM16,996.50, adding that the police also seized a pick-up truck and three gold rings belonging to the suspects worth a total of RM127,339.

Sahar said the suspects are currently under remand for seven days and they are investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A (1), Section 12 (2) and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, they could face the mandatory death penalty.

Sahar also revealed that only the 36-year-old male suspect did not have a past criminal records while the 39-year-old suspect had been previously charged under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The female suspect was also previously charged under Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Sahar said tests were conducted after the arrest and all three suspects were tested positive for Methamphetamine and Amphetamine.
