MIRI: Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) lion troupes have managed to raise over RM600,000 so far during the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration from residential visits and booking performances and is getting closer to achieve its target of RM1.2 million.

“The  impressive result this year was achieved thanks to the support from the Miri community,” said RRSS CEO Dato’ Fong Onn Min in a press release recently adding that they were deeply touched by the support throughout this festive celebration.

“Apart from Miri, our lion troupes have also performed in Baram, Sibuti, Batu Niah and Marudi.

“Of course, team members who had been training and worked very hard and with dedication, deserved the praise too,” said Fong.

In Marudi alone, he pointed out, the RRSS lion troupes had raised RM13,000 and on top of that, kind-hearted people had even prepared special meal and made accommodation arrangements for the team.

“We highly appreciate the kind gesture shown to our lion troupe and that we will definitely do our best,” he said.

The money collected from the lion dance performances, he added, would be used as education fund for its students as well as to improve the learning facilities at the school.

“Being a Chinese independent school in Miri, RRSS always strived to provide the best education possible especially to the Chinese community here.

“All these would not be possible without the support from the school board of directors, especially Datuk Seri Law Kiu Kiong and Tan Sri Ling Chiong Ho, who have contributed financially and physically in assisting the school,” he said.
