PUTRAJAYA: School Liaison Officers (PPS) should visit schools at least once a month to advise students on their role in the maintenance of law and order, said Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching.
She said the PPS comprising personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police could visit the schools at anytime and not necessarily on school assembly days.
Apart from being there during the school assembly, the PPS could also attend the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting, hold discussions with the headmaster or teachers or meet the students directly.
The KPI (Key Performance Indicator) of the ministry requires that the PPS visit the schools at least once a month and we are confident that with the presence of the police, crime and disciplinary problems among students could be reduced.
Teo said this after officiating the formation of a joint council at SRK Putrajaya Precinct 16 (1) here today. Also present were Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa and school headmistress Norihan Ismail.
Meanwhile Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun in his speech read out by Rusdi said the PPS was instrumental in helping to create a safe school environment as outlined in the School Liaison Officers Guidebook. – Bernama
