KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) led by Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal should not feel overly concerned over Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) intended entry into Sabah, said Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Chin Su Phin.

He said the majority of Sabahans have sent a strong message in the 14th General Election (GE14) that they wanted a local party to lead the State.

As the Chief Minister of the Warisan-led State Government, Chin said Shafie should do his level best to enhance the governance of Sabah and rectify the flaws left behind by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.

He pointed out that the previous government had implemented many policies without taking into consideration the people’s wishes, which eventually caused its downfall.

“We hope that the State Government led by Shafie will always put the people’s interest as priority when introducing new policies,” Chin said.

Although a majority of the State Cabinet lacked experience, Chin said, it was important for Sabah ministers, assistant ministers and government department heads to back Shafie’s commitment to reform Sabah and eradicate corrupt practices.

“If Warisan can truly be a corruption-free government, the people will definitely give their mandate to the party in the next general election,” he reckoned.

Chin added that Warisan must focus on implementing good policies to win the people’s support and trust, rather than being overly concerned about Bersatu’s entry into Sabah.

Shafie said yesterday that Warisan could not stop Bersatu from coming to Sabah. Nevertheless, he reiterated that Warisan has been very clear with its stand and direction.

“We have worked with Pakatan Harapan before, and after the elections we formed the federal government together, and we will continue to work with them, for the best interest of the people,” he said.
