MIRI: Big bikers from Brunei and Miri came together for a goodwill tour recently, which served to strengthen the friendship between the two sides.

According to assistant organising chairman Suariani Zainie, 33 big bikers including three women riders from Brunei and Miri took part in the ride, which departed from Sungai Tujuh immigration checkpoint early Sunday and arrived in Long Lama, Baram that very afternoon.

“It’s our joint tour ride, which also included charity work at the mosque in Long Lama as our goodwill gesture to the Muslims there,” Suariani told The Borneo Post yesterday, adding another objective of the tour was for the big bikers to experience the ride across the central Baram region.

Bersatu Bikers Club Brunei president Awang Samra Sulaiman, and Maxi Scooter Club president Awang Muhd ​​Ruzain Rizman led their respective members throughout the ride.

Suraini said the ride brought the Bruneians closer to nature as they passed the green jungles along the link road connecting Miri, Lapok and Long Lama.

Upon arrival at Long Lama, the entourage was welcomed by Mazlan Johari, the Imam of Masjid Darussalam.

Suariani said the group was treated to lunch by mosque’s congregation and their families – many of whom admired the high-powered motorcycles of different models and brands.

“All the riders enjoyed the atmosphere in Long Lama town and they get to meet and interact with members of the local Orang Ulu community and sub-groups there,” Suariani said, adding that there would more future tours being being planned for this year, in which they would want to visit more mosques in all parts of Sarawak. This would be a trademark for this group.”

Sharing his experience, trip advisor Awang Mohd Noor Adinin who is from Brunei, said besides strengthening the friendship between the Sarawakians and the Bruneians, the other objectives of the ride were to do charity work at the Masjid Darussalam in Long Lama Mosque, and also to experience the uniqueness of the countryside within central Baram.

The visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy Sarawak’s ‘cendol’ sponsored by Muzalifah Khamis, a bike bike enthusiast who is also a successful ‘cendol’ business operator.

Before leaving Long Lama, Awang Samra and Awg Mohd Noor handed over donations for the mosque to Mazlan.

A prayer was later held to wish for the safety of the riders prior to departure.
