Suspected meth peddler caught in the act by police

MIRI: Police arrested a local man for suspected involvement in drug abuse and drug trafficking in a car parked near a budget hotel at Jalan Dato Permaisuri here on Thursday.

Deputy district police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol in a press statement said the 40-year-old suspect from Bandar Baru Permyjaya was arrested by a team from the Miri District Police Headquarters’ (IPD) Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (BSJND) at about 11.30am.

The team seized 5.65 grammes of drugs believed to be methamphetamine worth RM904 during the raid.

“During the raid, the suspect himself handed over to the police seven transparent plastic packets each containing a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, roughly weighing 5.65 grammes.

“The suspect was later taken to the BSJND office for further action and the drugs were confiscated as evidence,” Mohd Sabri said.

“A urine test, which was conducted on the suspect after he was brought to the BSJND office, also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he added.

The suspect also has a previous conviction for drug offences, was detained for further investigation.

Police are investigating the case under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act.
