Avoid disrupting electric bus service, operator advises motorists

The electric bus prepares to begin its route loop at the Open Air Market in Kuching yesterday.

KUCHING: The operator of the state’s first electric bus here is appealing to motorists to be more considerate and aware of the bus’ movement on the road.

Henz Pacific Sdn Bhd managing director Henry Lai said the bus has encountered difficulty in traversing certain roads due to some motorists either double-parking or parking at non-designated areas, particularly along the narrow street of Padungan Chinatown.

“Those who park in places especially in the Padungan Chinatown area should be aware that there is a bus service which currently plies that route. The bus has difficulty moving through that stretch of road when people park irresponsibly there,” he said when met by The Borneo Post yesterday.

Lai, however, said he understood that since the service is new, many road users were probably still unaware the bus passes through a specific route.

He also expressed his hope that passengers take good care of the facility in order to project a good image to foreign visitors.

The electric bus service route runs on a loop starting from the Open Air Market, covering a distance of around 14km.

It makes 12 trips per day on a one-hour interval from 7am to 6pm, and is free during the current three-month trial run.
