KOTA KINABALU: Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has allocated RM60 million to step up installation works for Unifi infrastructure at urban and rural areas in Sabah, this year.

TM Sabah general manager Dato’ Hj Mohd Sainal bin Mohd Amin said the company had invested approximately RM320 million to develop Unifi infrastructure in the state for the past four years.

“TM Unifi service now covers 70 per cent of the areas in Sabah.”

He said TM was also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to provide Unifi or Unifi Mobile to the rural areas.

Sainal said this after a courtesy call by TM’s top management led by its chairman Rosli Man, on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal here yesterday.

Meanwhile, TM acting group chief executive officer Imri Mokhtar said the purpose of the courtesy visit was to discuss how TM could play its role in assisting the state government to develop the state’s economy through information technology (IT) towards creating a digital economy.

Imri, who is also the chief operating officer, said TM was committed to continue investing on telecommunications infrastructure in Sabah to enhance its connectivity services for the community, businesses and government.

He added that TM would be carrying out the #khabarbaik programme this year to showcase its innovative and new products to Sabahans.

To a question, Imri said the company was aware that improvements on Unifi services were needed in certain areas.

“We will upgrade our existing network and customer service to all our users this year,” he vowed.
