Home Minister’s words reassure PBB Youth

KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiutera Bersatu (PBB) Youth movement thanked the Home Ministry for giving assurance that it would not leave any stones unturned in its investigation into the operation of Radio Free Sarawak (RFS).

Vice youth chief Pandi Suhaili said the movement felt relief with this assurance because it wants the radio station to stop from broadcasting its malicious lies to the rakyat.

“We are living in a multi-racial state by which it is of great importance for all of us to have a good relationship with all communities in order to have a peaceful life.

“Therefore, we must not condone any act of planting the seeds of hatred among the rakyat by irresponsible party such as RFS,” he said when met yesterday.

On Tuesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammudin Tun Hussein was quoted as saying the ministry would investigate into the operation of the radio station because “I want Malaysia to be safe.”

He also confirmed that a police report had been lodged against the radio station for its alleged ploy to run down the state government by broadcasting ‘malicious lies’.

Hishammudin had said action would be taken against those involved if they were found to be doing things against the law.

Last week Pandi led a group of the party youth members to lodge a police report against the radio station at the Simpang Tiga Police Station.

The report was made in respond to a statement by the Information, Communication, Culture and Arts Deputy Minister Datuk James Salang that the Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) could take actions against RFS if the radio station is found guilty of contravening the country’s law.

Meanwhile, Pandi also challenged Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) state liaison chairman Baru Bian to accept a challenge for a debate by the youth movement in Ba Kelalan.

“If he doesn’t want to take the challenge from our members in the Ba Kelalan constituency, then it is confirmed that he is only interested to get publicity for his open challenge to the Chief Minister and not because he is really concerned with the rakyat,” said the vice youth chief.

Last Monday, the PBB Ba Kelalan youth secretary Richard Silo said Baru must not think too highly of himself because he is just an appointed office bearer.

Richard who is also a member of PBB’ Youth Economic Bureau said instead of pretending to be a hero for the people of Sarawak, Baru should first debate with the movement in his home turf of Ba Kelalan.

“He lost in all three attempts because we in Ba Kelalan know him very well. Many people in Sarawak do not know him as we do.

“So, we wish to issue a challenge to him to have an open debate with us on the progress in Ba Kelalan constituency,” he said, adding that Baru must show concrete evidence on development which he had brought to the constituency and not simply being rhetoric on the debate.
