KUCHING: Chief Minister tells the media to wait for today when asked when the state election would be held

KUCHING: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud might announce the date of the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

“Wait one more day,” he said when asked by journalists how soon the DUN would be dissolved as he hurriedly left the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) after opening the Youth Assembly 2011 yesterday.

On speculations that he would perform his Umrah after his announcement
on the dissolution, Taib
said: “No, I don’t go for Umrah.”

Taib did not indicate when the DUN would be dissolved but some political pundits believe it could be next Monday and not today.

On Thursday, Taib’s official visit to Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhamad Salahuddin at the Astana prior to chairing a cabinet meeting had attracted frenzied media attention.

It turned out to be a routine formal visit in his capacity as the state Barisan Nasional chairman to the governor before a cabinet meeting.

If Taib were to announce the dissolution of the DUN today it would likely be during a press conference after the official visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
