Four disabled students in KL score excellent results

KUALA LUMPUR: Four disabled students are among 792 or 3.92 per cent of 20,377 candidates who obtained excellent results (grade A+, A and A-) in all subjects in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in the capital last year.

The four are students with poor eyesight (two), visually impaired (one) and another hindered with various disabilities from Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas (visually impaired) Setapak and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Aminuddin Baki.

Kuala Lumpur education director Mohd Adenan Deraman said they obtained excellent results in all 10 subjects.

The state average grade (GPN) for Kuala Lumpur also increased to 4.74 compared with 4.92 last year, well above the national 2010 GPN of 5.19.

The best schools are Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah, SM Sains Seri Puteri and SM Sains Selangor.

In KOTA BAHARU, Kelantan recorded the highest GPN in seven years, said state education director Hussain Awang.

He said the  ate’s GPN was 5.15, an increase of 0.11 per cent compared with 5.26 in 2009.

Of 35,594 candidates, 278 obtained excellent results in all subjects, including six who scored A+ in all subjects.

In KUANTAN, 381 students in Pahang scored A in all subjects compared with 321 the previous year.

Chan Shu Ren from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Chung Ching, Raub who obtained 11A+ was adjudged the best student.

Three Orang Asli students also obtained excellent results. They are Nornita a/p Sham Song from SM Sains Sultan Ahmad Shah, Pekan (6A, 4C), Noranidun Midun (7A, 1C) and Hashimah a/p Ishak (6A, 3B), both from SMK Tengku Abdullah, Pekan.

In SEREMBAN, 620 candidates in Negeri Sembilan scored excellent results in all subjects compared with 590 in 2009.

State education director Abdul Halim Abdul Razak said 44 candidates obtained A+ in all subjects compared with 15 in 2009 while the state’s GPN rose to 5 compared with 5.22 in 2009.

In KOTA KINABALU, 31,135 students or 94.87 per cent of 33,383 candidates in Sabah qualified for certificates compared with 94.46 per cent in 2009, said state education director Datuk Dr Muhiddin Yusin.

He said 152 candidates scored excellent results in all subjects compared with 95 the previous year.

In ALOR SETAR, Kedah education director Abdullah Saad said the state’s GPN rose to 5.39 compared with 5.56 in 2009 and 11 schools achieved grade average of between 0.0 and 3.0.

He said nine of 36,548 candidates obtained A+ in all subjects.

A total of 451 candidates or 1.44 per cent obtained excellent results in all subjects compared with 408 last year, he said.

In JOHOR BAHARU, 1,101 candidates in Johor scored excellent results in all subjects compared with 1,010 in 2009.

State education director Markom Giran said the state’s GPN rose to 5.16 compared with 5.32 in 2009, the best result in five years.

He said 43,489 candidates would receive SPM certificates compared with 42,370 in 2009.

In MELAKA, state education director Juliah Leman said 318 students obtained A in all subjects, including 21 who scored A+ in all subjects, compared with 309 in 2009.

She said two students, Ameerul Ashraf Harunarasid from SBP Integrasi Selandar and Tan Chun Hao from SMK Gajah Berang emerged top students when they scored 11A+.

Sekolah Menengah Sains Muzaffar Shah was adjudged the best school with the School Grade Point Average of 1.71 followed by Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Selandar (1.90) and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sharifah Rodziah (2.72).

In KUALA TERENGGANU, state education director Razali Daud said 405 candidates obtained A in all subjects compared with 283 in 2009.

He said 17 candidates obtained A+ in all subjects compared with only five in 2009.

Razali said the percentage of candidates who passed all subjects increased to 12,182 compared with 11,601 in 2009.

In PENANG, state deputy education director Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin said 869 candidates obtained excellent results in all subjects, including 25 who scored A+ in all subjects.

He said among 20 schools, which achieved 100 per cent passes, were SMJK Perempuan (Cina) Penang, SMJK (C) Jit Sin, SMK Agama Al Irsyad, Sekolah Menengah Sains Kepala Batas and SMK Bukit Jambul.

Two disabled candidates, Eugenia Cheah Lyngene (4A+, 4A-, 1B+) from SMK Convent Pulau Tikus and S. Narayana Samy (2A+, 1A, 2A-, 3B+) from SMK Haji Zainal Abidin are among 25 best students. — Bernama
