LAWAS: Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and YWP Corporation Sdn Bhd yesterday handed over donations to SK Long Tuma after fire razed a dormitory and teachers’ quarters on Monday.

Tengah’s donation was handed over by his wife and chairperson of Perkim Lawas branch, Datuk Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud at the school, about five kilometres from Lawas town.

Morliah was saddened by the incident at the school where she had previously served as a temporary teacher.

The donation was handed over to school headmaster Meripa Galuko.

Also present were SPDP Ba Kelalan Youth Section leader Willie Liau and members of Perkim Lawas branch, who later inspected the remains of the dormitory block and teachers’ quarters that were gutted by fire.

The school has 346 students, of which 112 were boarders from villages in the Ba kelalan constituency, and the school has decided to accommodate the affected students in the vacant teachers quarters pending renovation works to convert the multi-purpose hall into a temporary dormitory.

Syarikat WYP Corporation Sdn Bhd’s managing director Gordon Chung Pei Nam also handed over donations to the school, while Lawas Member of Parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong is expected to hand over his personal contribution and federal government assistance today.
