KUCHING: BN candidate for Padungan Sim Kiang Chiok has called on the electorate to reflect more deeply on the 1Malaysia concept.

During a ceramah near the Stutong Community Market here on Saturday, the SUPP new face said Malaysians in general should give Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak more time to implement his plans.

“He assumed office only two years plus and the interest of everyone is included in 1Malaysia. Although we have all the policies in place, we still need to work hard to lead a better living.

“1Malaysia is a complete package towards attaining a high-income nation. Whoever needs help, we will help. People must understand who does the job at the end of the day,” he said.

He said in his opinion, there was no need to fight for ‘change’ because the BN government could ‘transform’ the state and nation by bringing in more development for the benefit of the people.

On the DAP, Sim said: “If you can truly change, we can believe you but can you? Change is different from transformation.”

He told those present that even if the DAP won all 15 seats it was contesting, there would not  be any major change forthcoming.

“Hence, give me a chance. I want to serve you all,” said Sim, who is up against DAP’s new face Wong King Wei and Padungan incumbent Dominique Ng.

Meanwhile, BN-SUPP Kota Sentosa candidate Datuk Alfred Yap said all SUPP candidates in predominantly Chinese areas had the proper channel to fight for  the interest of the communities.

“We can bring your voice to the prime minister for as long as your requests are reasonable.”

The SUPP information and publicity secretary said he did receive requests for free land lease renewal but he added:  “Income must be there to run a state or a nation, so it is kind of impossible to have it for free.”

Yap told the public that Sarawakians enjoy the lowest land lease renewal premium compared to other states in Malaysia.

He explained that expenditure of the state government must be tabled and adopted during sessions of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), adding: “We do not spend like we keep our money in a Milo tin.”

Yap, who is SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman, is locking horns with Kota Sentosa incumbent Chong Chieng Jen, the DAP state secretary.

For BN-SUPP Pending candidate Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, five years is enough and he called on voters to have confidence in him.

“You have already given the opposition five years and the result you see is zero. In schools, if you get zero all the time, what would your teacher say? Likewise in Pending, shall we kick the opposition out?

“Give me a chance to serve you as I believe none of you is willing to put the future of your generations to come at stake.”

Dr Sim, who is a cardiologist, stressed that the opposition could do nothing more than raise their voices outside the government.

“What for you keep shouting outside? What we want is real action. With my track record at the hospital, I will be able to help more people.

“There are over 29,000 voters in Pending and it’s not possible for me to meet you all. So please spread my words and vote for me on April 16,” he said.
