There was a need to do so as soon as possible to empower the council to take the necessary action, said Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Bobbey Suan.

“The delay in adopting the by-laws has caused the council to lose million of ringgit in terms of revenue,” he said when officiating at the swearing-in of Nabawan District Council Councillors here on Friday. The council “is powerless” as it has no by-laws, said Bobbey who is also Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry.

He said the council has 30 by-laws which had been amended but have yet to be gazetted.

“I hope the ministry concerned could take action promptly to gazette the by-laws as possible.”

Meanwhile, Bobbey advised the councilors to carry out their duties responsibly in ensuring implementation of development planned under the local authority.

He reminded the appointed councilors to be serious and committed in attending the council meeting.

Also present at the function was Pensiangan MCA chief Wong Wai Yuen and heads of government department here. The Nabawan District Council has retained 13 councillors for 2010/2011 from its previous council list. Five new faces were elected councillors representing Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and businessman.

Those retained include Ahuar Rasam, Mohd. Hanafi Abdullah @ Ansom Putiang, Matusin Elloh, Likin Simin, Maning @ Suhailin Hai Arshad Ambikin, Marutin Ansiung, Jainip Antaim, Maturin Haji Hasbollah, Alex @ Gaslin Inulow, Paul Yambak, Abu Bakar Gait Sarioh, Ahmad Adini Angilas and Mohd Redzuan Laindon Tangkong.

Meanwhile the new faces were Jubilin Kilan, Barahim Andipoh, Williamson Kunum, Steven Lewin and Betty Goh.
