KUCHING: Residents in Satok area, especially students, are urged to fully utilise the free WiFi service to acquire knowledge through the fragmented world of the Internet, now that easy access to information is readily available.

Satok incumbent Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday said the newly launched free WiFi service is meant to provide a virtual learning facility through the Internet for the people.

“Satok has free wireless service now. You can seek knowledge anytime and anywhere through your iPhone, iPad or laptop,” he said.

He added: “This is one of the services that I intend to provide for the people, especially the younger generation, because the future of Sarawak rests on them. Investing in younger generation to produce quality workforce for the country is therefore important and critical.”

Speaking at the prize giving ceremony for excellent students at SK Merpati Jepang here, Abang Johari reminded the students to be appreciative and to give back to the society in future.

The Housing and Urban Development Minister urged the students to serve the state with their full heart once they have graduated from their study.

A total of 235 students received the certificates and BSN Saving Premium Certificates sponsored by Yayasan Sarawak.

Abang Johari also advised students to choose the disciplines that could meet the demand of the job market. He pointed out that the state government is working to beautify rivers to turn them into a tourist attraction.

“Rivers in many countries are the source to generate income, particularly for the tourism industry. I hope with the beautification project, it could help boost the state’s tourism industry and create more job opportunities for the people,” he said.
