Three foot massage/reflexology centres warned against illegal renovations

KOTA KINABALU: Three foot massage/reflexology centres have been warned after their premises were found to have been renovated with permanent rooms without the approval of the local authority.A joint operation was carried out by the Monitoring Unit from the Local Government and Housing Ministry, led by Haji Abdul Kahar Mohd. Idris, together with the Enforcement Unit of the Penampang District Council at Beverly Plaza, last Thursday.

The three operators were found to have renovated their premises with permanent rooms including permanent doors that could be locked from inside.

Some of the rooms were also found to be furnished with mattresses and bathrooms.

Abdul Kahar voiced his concerns that the availability of such facilities could lead to manipulation by irresponsible operators to carry out vice activities especially prostitution under the guise of foot reflexology centre.

The operators involved were advised to rectify the violation and at the same time to submit their renovation plans to the Local Authority within two weeks time.

The rectification must be in accordance with the relevant legislation particularly the building by-law, failing which stern action will be taken against them including demolishing the illegal structure and cancelling their licences.

Abdul Kahar warned operators of foot massage/reflexology centres throughout the state not to violate the business licensing conditions particularly the rules banning renovation in their premises without the approval of the Local Authority.
