SIU2 to ‘Sheng It Up’ at Borneo Jazz 2011

KUCHING: Hong Kong band SIU2 will be performing at the Borneo Jazz 2011 and challenge your idea of what jazz and traditional Chinese music are all about.

SIU2, an acronym for ‘Sheng It Up’, reflects Hong Kong’s cultural fusion of Western and Eastern influences by merging Western
rhythms of bass, drums and piano with traditional Chinese instruments such as the guzheng (zither), sanxian (three-stringed lute)
and the sheng (mouth organ).

OUTSIDE THE BOX: SIU2 will be performing at the Borneo Jazz 2011.

Multi-talented composer Ng Cheuk-yin is a sheng wizard, taking this 5,000-year-old instrument well into the 21st century and creating an unimaginably rich and unique new jazz sound that epitomises the true spirit of Hong Kong.

Borneo Jazz 2011 will be held in Miri from May 12-15 at the ParkCity Everly Hotel.

Currently in its sixth year, the festival has been extended to a four-day event and with artistes hailing from every corner of the globe – India, China, Japan, France, Brazil, Holland, Australia, United States, Canada and Malaysia – Borneo Jazz 2011 will truly be an international event.
