KOTA KINABALU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat Kota Kinabalu division chief, Christina Liew has called on the state education department to propose to the Education Ministry to replace textbooks with laptops starting in primary schools, like what the Terengganu state government is currently doing.

Liew made the call after meeting about ten parents of pupils in SRJK Chung Hwa here about their complaints on issues which had not been responded to the school’s Parent Teacher Association.

“Since laptops are no longer expensive, why don’t we follow what the Terengganu state government has done to reduce the burden children carrying books to school.

“I will be paying my courtesy call to the state education department as soon as possible. Hopefully the director will raise this matter to the ministry for consideration for the sake of our kids,” she said.

Liew added that using laptops instead of text books, will reduce millions of the government’s money, especially the cost of printing the books.

She said, the Education Ministry should be looking at the good example of what Terengganu is doing to ensure the kids in school will be able to study in good condition without having to carry heavy bags since the education system in the country can utilise the technology.
