KUALA LUMPUR: The highly-anticipated Borneo Jazz Festival (BJF) will be holding a special sneak preview at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus from 7pm today and tomorrow for audiences to experience the magic of the festival firsthand.

Performing at the preview will be Les Doigts de L’Homme from France and Yuichiro Tokuda’s Ralyzz Dig from Japan. Local bands like Irma Seleman, 8AM and In Your Heart will also be featured. “This preview allows festival-goers a taste of what they can expect during the Borneo Jazz Festival,” said Dato Rashid Khan, chief executive officer of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).

“This festival, as well as the upcoming Rainforest World Music Festival in July, is two of the most anticipated tourist attractions organised annually by STB. This year’s editions will be even better and we promise a truly memorable experience for all,” he said.

Renowned for infusing gypsy jazz with elements of swing, rock and even punk, Les Doigts de L’Homme will captivate music lovers’ hearts by offering explosive up-tempo rhythms during the preview night as well as at the festival. Yuichiro Tokuda and its band members Naoto Suzuki, Kazuhiro Tamura, Kumpei Nakabayashi, and Gaku Hasegawa have performed in numerous jazz festivals in Japan over the years but have never toured elsewhere. The BJF will be their first performance outside of their home country. Formerly known as the Miri International Jazz Festival, the BJF has been extended to a four-day event running from May 12 to 15. The headline act will see Grammy nominee Maria Muldaur from the United States melting the hearts of audiences at the Parkcity Everly Hotel in Miri. Other stellar performers include Cunha & Piper (Brazil), SIU2 (China), State of Monc (Holland), Victor Yong and the Electric Carnival (Malaysia/Canada) and Dhruv (India). For those who have yet to purchase tickets to BJF, drop by the ticketing booth at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus Concourse area during both preview nights.
