MIRI: Pustaka Miri is supporting Miri City Council’s Miri May Fest 2011 by organising several interesting activities this month.

On May 21, the library will once again collaborate with its smart partner Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Miri Branch in organising an event to commemorate World Migratory Bird Day 2011.

Primary school pupils (Year Four to Six) are invited to take part in Poster-Making Competition with its theme ‘Birds of Sarawak’.

Registration is free; the participants need only bring their drawing and colouring tools. It will commence at 1pm for the duration of two hours.

Parents and teachers as well as those who love nature are encouraged to attend a talk and slideshow on ‘Birdwatching in Miri: Common Birds in Your Garden and Other Rare Birds Beyond’ after the competition.

MNS Miri Branch’s former chairperson MdNazeri Abghani, who is an avid birdwatcher, will be sharing his birdwatching
experience through colourful photos captured as well as tips on how to be a good birdwatcher.

Apart from the nature-related event, Pustaka Miri will hold its third Customers’ Day on the same day starting from 11am until 5pm. The counter will be set up in the library’s Ground Floor Foyer.

Those who register or renew their Pustaka memberships will receive special tokens of appreciation. They are also able to find out the benefits of being registered members as well as the many activities planned throughout the year.

Visitors to the library will be able to share their thoughts and suggestions for improvement at the counter as well as getting to know the services and facilities Pustaka Miri has to offer.

Another activity specially planned for Miri May Fest 2011 is the first-ever ‘Batik Fun Walk 2011’ which is organised by Pustaka Miri Sports and Recreation Club
(KSR). The inaugural health walk is to be held on May 28. It will start from Miri City Fan at 7am and Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin is expected to flag off the event.

Batik Fun Walk is open to groups of eight to ten persons in a team and they will be judged for their creativity, sportsmanship and teamwork while parading in colourful batik attires.

The prizes up for grab include Most Creative Batik Team, Most Sporting Team and Best Teams (champion, first runner-up and second runner-up).
