TEBEDU: A group of around 100 people held a peaceful demonstration near the Tebedu Police Station last Saturday morning to protest the detention of five men from Temong Mawang over the torching of heavy machineries, lorries and quarters in a timber camp here on May 8.

Their spokesman said they gathered at the Tebedu township around 10am before proceeding to the police station.

He added that they protested for more than half an hour before dispersing.

“We protested because we were not satisfied with the action of the authorities to detain our friends,” he said when contacted yesterday.

The five men were arrested last Friday, and they were brought to the Central Police Station for further questioning.

They will be produced in court this Wednesday.
