KUALA LUMPUR: Kuching International Airport (KIA) will offer connectivity to Jakarta through Kal Star Aviation, which made its maiden flight to KIA on Monday.

Utilising their newly furnished Boeing 737-300, with the capacity to carry 148 passengers, the airline has commenced daily flights for the Jakarta-Pontianak-Kuching route, a statement from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said.

Managing director of MAHB, Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, said the service from Jakarta with a stopover at Pontianak, would benefit passengers from Sarawak in terms of choices.

“Malaysia Airports is actively collaborating with the government to ensure that we maximise the effectiveness of our marketing investment to attract new airlines and establish new routes,” he said. —Bernama

This operation takes the total number of airlines operating at KIA to nine currently including Malaysia Airlines. — Bernama
