KUCHING: The road that links SJK Chung Hua Sungai Buda, Muara Tebas to the main road has been in a bad condition for the past one year or so, and fingers are pointed at trucks that travel to and from a nearby earth extraction site.

REPAIR NEEDED: This damaged road is used by SJK Chung Hua Sungai Buda teachers, students and parents everyday.
The 500-metre stretch is so bad that it has caused a number of accidents and damaged the undercarriage of several cars.
Muara Tebas Kapitan, Chai Chon Jong, told The Borneo Post last Saturday that he was unhappy that the damaged road was causing inconvenience to the students and their parents.
“It’s tough for small cars such as Kancils. Their oil pans and bumpers get damaged when they fall into any of the deep holes in the road.
“It’s no wonder that drivers have to drive really slowly along the stretch,” said Chai.
He observed that some people who were not familiar with the road have had accidents, and when the road is dry the dust clouds would envelop the area each time a lorry or car travels through.
“This kind of environment is definitely not healthy for the school,” he said.
“Complaints has been made to the earth extractors, but they argued that they are licensed contractors,” said Chai, who also disclosed that the earth is taken to a nearby construction site.
Muara Tebas, Bako and Sungai Tapah Chinese Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairman, Bong Nam Kee, said he too had complained about the matter, but each time the problem returned after a few months.
“After the road has been repaired the lorries would churn it up again and very soon the holes would reappear. We are fed up with the situation,” said Bong.
In response to this, Santubong MP Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who spoke at a Chinese New Year dinner held by the school last Saturday, urged the villagers and JKKK members to take down the plate number of the lorries.
“The contractors should repair the road as they had damaged it. It’s the responsible thing to do,” said Junaidi.
