Policeman’s parents receive ex-gratia payment

KAPIT: The family of the late Constable Jossy Ayum — who was killed in a road accident while pursuing a criminal in Batu Gajah, Perak – received an ex-gratia payment from the government yesterday.

Sarawak Police Management Department head SAC II Datuk Ahmad Sofian Mohd Yassin presented over RM14,800 to Jossy’s father, Constable Ayum Blawan, and mother, housewife Riong Jana.
Kapit OCPD DSP Entusa Iman, Kapit police Management Department officer-in-charge ASP Chiew Swoi Kee, Special Branch officer-in-charge ASP Ritche Jarit, prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Ooi Swoi Kee and Traffic Department officer-in-charge Inspector Gilbert Cinhin were among those who witnessed the handing over ceremony.
Entusa commended Jossy for his service to the country.
“He sacrificed his life for the nation.
He died during his duties, when he chased after a criminal,” he said.
Jossy died in an August 2005 road accident.
“My late son, Jossy was insured for RM50,000.
Altogether, he was compensated RM100,000 plus from the insurance.
He died during the course of duty in the road accident,” said Ayum. The ex-gratia payment was divided between Jossy’s parents.
