Report crime to police: MP
March 10, 2010, Wednesday
TAWAU: The people here have been urged to report on any crime, including petty crime, to the police Tawau MP Datuk Chua Soon Bui said this after learning that many victims did not make any police report on crime involving them.

CRIME PREVENTION: Chua (centre), Ibrahim (fourth left), former Tawau MP Shim Paw Fatt (fourth right) during their visit to discuss crime matters.
The victims assumed that police would not investigate into the crime seriously, she said in a statement after meeting the District Police Chief ACP Ibrahim Chin at his office yesterday.
Chua said she was concerned about the crime situation faced by the public and added that she would organise a dialogue between residential areas and police according to the local needs.
“I hope Tawau residents would cooperate with the police on crime in their areas, be it small or big, as the police need public cooperation to beat crime,” she said.
Chua said members of the public had been concerned about numerous house break-ins lately.
They felt that police were not doing enough, she added.
However, Ibrahim assured that police were doing their job accordingly and the public should not lose confidence in the police.
Ibrahim also advised victims who felt their cases were not handled properly to meet him personally at his office.
Meanwhile, on the recent case of an Indonesian man caught making fake Mykad and driving licences using original documents, she said the government should ensure that the MyKad is tampered-proof.
According to the National Registration Department (NRD), the card security cannot be tampered and that the chip could be used to counter check.
However, Chua suggested that the photo also should be tampered-proof, for example, if the photo is tampered the card would be spoiled and unusable.
NRD officers have the power to arrest under the various NRD Acts, but Chua also regretted that she had not heard of anyone trying to use fake documents at NRD offices being ever detained.
“I hope NRD could shed light on this and state how many had been arrested so far, for example, using fake birth certificate to apply for a genuine MyKad,” she said.
