Body to set up 208 community police posts

JOHOR BAHARU: The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) will set up 208 community police posts in housing areas in Iskandar Malaysia to safeguard security in the area.Its senior vice-president Datuk Benjamin Hasbi said 138 of them would be set up this year while the rest under the 10th Malaysia Plan at the cost of RM83 million.
A double-storey terrace house will be turned into a community police post, which will be manned by a constable, he told reporters yesterday.
He said the post would be on the ground floor while a constable and his family would stay upstairs.
The public can lodge reports at the community police post, which will also have a meeting area, he added.
Benjamin said so far Iskandar Malaysia had community police posts in Taman Bestari Indah, Ulu Tiram and in Taman Handal, Kulaijaya, and both of them would be opened by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman on Saturday. — Bernama
