March 29, 2010, Monday
SUNGAI PETANI: The government has assured that processing of loans is done transparently and in accordance with the system practised by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanazlah said agencies entrusted with managing the loans should make it easier for entrepreneurs to obtain them.
“We practise a transparent system and don’t want to see obstacles designed to cause people hardship,” he told reporters after a walkabout at Taman Ria market here yesterday.
Husni was commenting on public complaints that some banks only approved loans if their consultants were appointed by the applicants.
“Complaints should be made to Bank Negara because without them the government can’t act to correct the system.”
He said applicants could also check the status of loan applications by presenting a copies of the applications to the Finance Ministry.
Those who could not pay the loans could contact the Counselling and Credit Management Agency (AKPK) to restructure the payment.
On the New Economic Model (NEM), Husni said the government had considered feedback from non-governmental organisations (NGO), private sector, investors and the people.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak will table NEM in parliament on Tuesday. — Bernama
