Dolphin carcass causes stir at beach

MIRI: Beach goers at Luak Esplanade were stunned to see the carcass of a dolphin washed up on the beach yesterday.

The four feet long mammal, weighing 70 to 80kg, was first spotted by beach goers around 12pm yesterday.

One of them, Sukinny Moksi, 26, informed the Sarawak Fisheries Department (Miri office) and Bomba.

“I was strolling along the beach when I spotted the mammal,” he said, adding that it was dead by then.

According to Sarawak Forestry Department (Miri office) personnel who were met at the scene, the mammal had died eight hours prior to the discovery.

The news about the discovery attracted huge crowds to the beach.

The carcass of the mammal was brought by the Forestry Department to their laboratory.

Two years ago, Mirians were stunned when four fishermen found a white whale stuck to their fishing net at Miri Waterfront. It was released into the sea.
