The suspects are Hatta Junaidi, 26 (passport No AL867235) and 25-year-old Uray Amrus Najirin (passport No. T939179).

They last stayed in a house at Lavang Estate.

They are believed to be involved in the murder of the 17-year-old Mathew who was found dead in the compound of Lavang Estate at Mile 72, Jalan Bintulu-Miri.

Bintulu police chief, Superintendent Sulaiman Abdul Razak, in a press conference yesterday said Mathew was found after they received a call from a member of the public about a fight among a group of men about 6.30pm.

“Upon arrival, the police found a man motionless on the ground. He had no injuries on his body.

“The last address of the victim who worked as a painter was Rumah Morgan, Sungai Nipa Bakong in Baram.

“His belongings such as a necklace, bangle and RM151 cash were still on his body,” said Sulaiman.

Further investigation found that in the evening the victim was drinking with two friends who were his housemates, both of whom are foreigners.

In the course of drinking, there was a spat between the three of them.

Sulaiman said Mathew was kicked to the ground by the foreigners who later fled from the place.

Sulaiman said a post mortem carried out by a forensic pathologist on April 28 revealed severe brain haemorrhage caused the victim’s death.

“Therefore the case, which was earlier classified as sudden death, has been reclassified as murder and investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for mandatory death sentence,” he said.

In an unrelated case, a police report has been made about a missing tug boat and an engine by the manager of a company which is currently constructing a school at Sungai Binyo Pandan, Sebauh.

Sulaiman said the complainant suspected two of the company’s workers – Igan Suyong, 50 (last address at Taman Sungai Setuan Kecil Balingian) and 42-year-old Manding Langantin (last address at Rumah Jilan, Ulu Rassau Awik Saratok).

The case was investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term which may extend to seven years and possible fine or both.

In another case, Sulaiman said around 12pm on April 19, narcotics policemen led by Inspector Khairul Nidzam Abdul Khani raided a house in Taman Putra Sebiew road.

They found a huge number of imitation firearms and other dangerous weapons such as sword, machetes, axes and knives.

According to Sulaiman, a 39-year-old unemployed man who is the house owner was detained to assist in the investigation.

The case was investigated under Section Section 7 (1)(a) of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances Act 1958 which provides for imprisonment not more than two years, and possible fine not exceeding RM2,000 or both.

It was also investigated under Section 36 Weapons Act 1960 which provides for up to one year’s jail or RM5,000 fine or both.
