15 finalists to battle it out for Kumang Gawai Dayak 2010 title

KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) announced its 15 finalists for its Kumang Gawai Dayak Contest 2010 after the semi-final round Saturday.
They are Durin Edward Jelani, Erlin Christopher Pandong, Elaine Madu Martin, Belinda Gibson, Florance Awat, Leely Onasis Ukoon, Ema Greek, Prisheila Robert Galayan, Shirley Jimeli, Jessica Brown, Adeline Ngelambong, Wandylia Salleh, Ethel Lampai Ringgit, Cordelia Lawrance Ladon, and Natasha Charmaine Rickson.
They will be battling each other for the Kumang Gawai SDNU 2010 title during the final set on May 15 at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre in Stampin.
The winner will not only win RM5,000 cash prize but also have the privilege to be the ambassador for SDNU.
Second place will receive cash prize of RM3,000 while third RM2,000. Other finalists will not leave empty handed as they will receive consolation cash prize of RM400 each.
On another note, the organising chairman Dr Dusit Jaul said the final on May 15 would also have lots of other interesting events.
“We have invited delegates from the Kalimantan Barat Dayak community to join us.
They will bring two of their best Kumang Gawai and will also present a cultural performance that night.
“We have also invited delegates from the Sabah Kadazan-Dusun community,” he revealed.
