KUALA LUMPUR: Subscribers for Astro’s B.yond platform are advised to sign up for its new Personal Video Recorder (PVR) functionality now as to avoid congestion during  the system’s activation.

Astro’s regional sales manager (Sarawak and Sabah) Alison Lau said orders could reach up to 10,000 activations especially in the advent of major broadcasting events or programmes.

“We’ve seen this during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where three hours before the game started, we received so many calls that the line became jammed. We were unable to process these requests immediately and it became nearly impossible to meet their demands on time.

“Now, our worries are that come June 16, everybody will want to activate their PVRs in time for the 2010 World Cup at the very last minute. This is our challenge, which is why we advise subscribers to activate now, rather than doing it on the 13th, 14th or 15th of June,” she told The Borneo Post during the launch of Astro’s B.yond PVR at Mid Valley Mall recently.

For the B.yond PVR, the installation would be done in seven days’ time.

“So, I urge customers to start their activations now, whether it’s for Astro B.yond Box or the new B.yond PVR.

“The system is already there in both our regional warehouses in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. They can always call us or drop by our regional centres in both locations,” she added.

B.yond subscribers here can contact Astro’s regional office at 082-419199 or visit its centre located in Central Park Commercial Centre in 3rd Mile Rock Road.
