KUCHING: ‘Scholar-sheeps’, ‘craftsman-sheep’ and other beguiling ‘sheep’ based terms applied innovatively in a web-based campaign aimed at unlocking the creative potential of students, has helped PJ College of Art & Design (PJCAD) earn the judges’ nod for a Bronze award at the recent KANCIL Awards 2009.

The ‘Creative RAM-page’ website, invites inspired young talents to submit their original designs of a sheep, the symbol of conformity which PJCAD students are advised NOT to adopt, and stand a chance to win a scholarship from PJCAD.
The creative use of language complements the eye-catching design of the online recruitment website, which was developed by Arachnid Sdn Bhd along with the PJCAD team.
Chief executive of PJCAD David YY Liew said: “We’re very pleased that the KANCIL award judges recognised the uniqueness of our online recruitment website. It was conceived with our mantra in mind — Expose. Explore. Experience.
“PJCAD aims to expose students to a creative future, acting as a conduit for them to explore the myriad opportunities in the world of creative art and design, and ultimately to provide them with a distinctive experience in cutting edge creative technology.”
“We believe our website ‘Creative RAM-page’ encapsulates these core values and we hope to attract the top talents in the creative field to PJCAD where we can help unlock their potential,” he added.
The quirky online recruitment campaign has two phases, the first of which was open to PJCAD students and ended in October 2009.
The second phase commenced mid-October 2009 and runs till mid-May 2010 and is open to all Malaysians aged between 17-23 years of age.
Monthly prizes of one unit of iPod shuffle are offered to the best submission in that particular month.
A judging panel consisting of Senior Academics at PJCAD will select the first, second and third place winners who will then be invited to continue their studies at PJCAD in the 2010 academic year.
The most creative design will win a full scholarship and an Apple MacBook, the second best design a 50 per cent scholarship and one unit of iPod Touch 16GB, while the third placing will also receive a 50 per cent scholarship and one unit of iPod Nano 8GB.
Fifty consolation mystery gifts will be given to designs that are judged commendable and deserve special mention.
