SIBU: Sales of sea cucumber at the Central Market here soared three times higher than normal yesterday as townsfolk prepared for the Dragon Boat Festival.

HOW MUCH?: Yiing (right) serving a customer.
A hawker, Yiing Chung Ming, in his 40s, said there was good demand for sea cucumber yesterday. It was usually the main ingredient to make Chinese soup or fried with mixed vegetables.
“This is despite the selling price being from RM35 to RM50 per kilogramme, depending on its quality and freshness,” he said when met at the wet section of the market.
Yiing said other items that sold like hot cakes were boneless chicken and duck feet which could fetch up to RM15 and RM30 per kg respectively.
Boneless chicken and duck feet, he said, were best fried with mixed vegetables and were usually served on special occasions or festivals.
Yiing said such items were still sold at normal prices at the Central Market regardless of the good demand from customers.
