KUCHING: A coffeeshop proprietor lost over RM10,000 after thieves broke into his unoccupied house on Wednesday and stole a number of branded accessories. The middle-aged man discovered the theft when he returned to his house along Jalan Batu Kawah-Jalan Matang around 3pm and found the rooms ransacked.
He said the house had been vacant for 24 hours as he was staying at another location and believed the break-in took place during that time.
Among the items missing were three branded wrist watches, a branded leather belt and roughly RM500 in cash. He lodged a police report later the same day.
In an unrelated case, a transport lorry which was reported stolen early yesterday was found abandoned at a housing estate several hours later.
The lorry was spotted being driven away by a group of unidentified men at about 2am from a shop in Pending.
The shopowner and some friends then began a search of their own after being notified of the theft but were unable to locate the missing vehicle until they received a call from a resident in Bintawa around 9am.
The resident had contacted the phone number listed at the side of the truck after waking up to find the vehicle abandoned along the road directly in front of his house.
Upon arriving at the house, the shopowner confirmed the vehicle as his and later notified the police of its recovery.
