Abang Johari gives two tips on how to become successful
July 25, 2010, Sunday
KUCHING: Housing and Urban Development Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday gave two tips on how to achieve success in life.
The first one is to use successful personalities such as AirAsia’s Group CEO Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes as a role model. The second one is to piggy-back on the phenomenally successful Facebook to market one’s products or services.
“I am deeply impressed by Tony Fernandes, the AirAsia guy, and a gentleman (no name mentioned) from Penang who successfully established a corporation in Hong Kong. They should be role models for many,” he said.
Abang Johari also suggested that Sarawakians opt for Facebook to market their products and to do networking.
“Facebook is a very successful web-based social network which can be a good marketing tool for those who want to explore and expand their market.”
Abang Johari said these when receiving sponsorship from Malaysian Millionaire Project (MyJ) here yesterday. MyJ handed over RM56,430 to Abang Johari as financial aids for 27 social and charitable organisations in Kuching and Samarahan.
Among those present were Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, MyJ founder Dato’ Suhaili Yosop and organising chairman Abang Hasyim Abang Said.
Abang Johari said success has no boundaries and everyone should always possess the desire to break new grounds.
“People have to understand that reality is different from what they learn in university.
“Success does not cease at a certain point. Not being complacent is the key to succeed continually, while informal learning is vital to acquire in-depth knowledge,” he opined.
Citing as an example, Abang Johari said medical doctors had to constantly enhance their knowledge or they would not be able to diagnose new diseases.
Noting that MyJ is a multi-level marketing corporation which was determined to produce more successful individuals, he said their participants must equip themselves with the relevant skills before exploring the market statewide.
“When you have the ability, you can sell any products you want in any market.
“More importantly, if you are given a task, you have to focus on it and success should not be far from you.”
Abang Johari said marketing was an interesting subject as it evolved with time, while marketers had to adapt to current market needs.
“Most of those who alter their approaches from time to time are likely to succeed in their undertakings,” he observed.
