He said although the country presently enjoyed a reputation as one of the safest and prosperous countries in the world, safety and security aspects must never be ignored.
“Stringent safety and security measures must become a commonplace in Malaysia’s aviation culture.
“And as Deputy Minister of Transport, I encourage MASwings and Malaysian Airports Berhad (MAB) to increase their effort to ensure that the highest possible standard in safety and security performance prevails in all aspects,” Jelaing stressed.
He said this when launching MASwings and MAB’s ‘Safety, Security and Health Awareness Campaign 2010’ at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) yesterday.
Among those present were Malaysia Airports Holdings’ senior airport manager Sunif Naiman, MASwings Sarawak regional manager Zainuddin Mohamed and MASwings head of engineering and maintenance Nasip Roslan.
Jelaing pointed out that stringent measures on safety and security were more pertinent nowadays due to threats from terrorists.
He also spoke of the need to take the initiatives to curb the spread of infectious diseases in the country, such as by implementing a thorough health screening mechanism at airports.
