Abandoned baby girl found outside shop



NIBONG TEBAL: A shop owner had an early morning surprise when he discovered a baby girl enshrouded in cloth and newspaper in front of his shop yesterday.Seberang Perai Selatan police chief Supt Shafien Mamat said the newborn was found at 7.56am when the shop owner arrived to start business for the day.

“The 2.58kg baby, with its umbilical cord intact, was believed to have been born several hours before it was found. However, she was in a weak condition and slightly blue from the cold,” he told reporters, here yesterday.

He said the baby had been sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for further treatment and police had yet to determine her race.

He also urged members of the public with information on the baby to contact the nearest police station to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
