Teen breaks into house to have shower, ‘swap’ shirt

KUCHING: A teenager was handed over to the police after he inexplicably broke into a house at Kampung Bako near here on Monday, only to take a shower and ‘swap’ his old shirt for a clean one.The incident came to light around 7.30pm when the houseowner’s son spotted the teen, who is from the same village, walking about wearing what appeared to be a football jersey belonging to him.

He immediately stopped the boy and questioned him about the shirt, and was surprised to hear the latter confessing to breaking into the former’s house and stealing the garment.

Pressed further, the boy admitted he had forced his way into the house after realising no one was home and had taken a long shower before ‘exchanging’ his own shirt for the jersey. However, he did not give any reason for his bizarre behaviour.

The teen, 17, was later handed over to the police for further action.

In an unrelated case, a store assistant lodged a police report against a teenage co-worker who allegedly assaulted him with a helmet and threatened him with a knife on Monday.

The 25-year-old, who works in a sporting goods store at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, here, was having a break when he was approached by his 19-year-old colleague.

The teen, who had only recently joined the store, first asked if he could borrow some money from his older co-worker but had his request turned down.

He then asked if he could be spared a cigarette but suddenly turned violent after being rebuffed for a second time and struck the victim several times on the head using his motorcycle helmet.

The victim then rushed back to his workplace seeking refuge, but was trailed by the teen who then brandished a knife and threatened to further harm him.

At that point, the older colleague ran out of the store and made his way to the Padungan police station to lodge a report, while the teen fled in a different direction.

Police are investigating.
