The university’s ‘No Plastic Bags on Mondays’ campaign ambassador, Sharanjeet Kaur, said the UMS Student in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team is currently working hard to reach the standard set by the City Hall.

“We are hoping that UMS will be announced as a ‘Rubbish Free University’ anytime soon because we want the students to responsible and committed in taking care of the environment,” she said.

She said the achievement of UMS Indah Permai Student Housing will be the guideline for the university to achieve the high cleanliness standard.

Sharanjeet was one of the presenters of SIFE World Cup in Berlin, Germany, where she managed to reach the semi-finals (top 16) as a representative of Malaysia against 40 countries in October last year.

This year, Sharanjeet and other SIFE team members are spearheading the campaign towards making UMS rubbish free.

City Hall director general Yeo Boon Hai, who announced the UMS Indah Permai Student Housing as the first ‘Rubbish Free Campus’ yesterday, said he is optimistic that UMS students will not disappoint City Hall, since the university is the dream of the state in producing quality citizens for the next generation.

“We in City Hall are very proud that UMS has taken this step and proved to the public that UMS can be a rubbish free university,” he said

“All students in the university housing area must remember that this culture must be spread to the other students in the university so that our dream to keep our city clean will be fulfilled,” he said.

Also present at the event yesterday were UMS assistant vice chancellor Prof Madya Dr Kasim Mansur, UMS Indah Permai Student Housing principal Dr Piakong Tuah and City Hall assistant director general of operation Joanes Solidau.
