Three Indonesians check into semi-finals

KUCHING: The Indonesian players showed they meant business when they secured three of the semi-final spots in US$10,000 ITF Women’s Circuit Tournament here yesterday.Leading the Indonesian charge into the last four was top seed Lavinia Tananta who took three sets to overcome her South Korean opponent Han Na-Lae.
Lavinia lost the first set 4-6 but recovered strongly to take the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 to advance.
Her semi-final opponent will be compatriot and fourth seed Romana Tedjakusuma who disposed of Thai challenger Nicha Lertpitaksinchai 6-4, 6-3 in the last eight.
The third Indonesian semi-finalist is second seed Jessy Rompies who faced little resistance in defeating Han Sung-Hee of South Korea 6-3, 6-3 and meet another South Korean Kang Seo-Kyung in the semi-final today.
Kang took three sets to beat compatriot Yoo Min in the last quarter-final of the day. She won the first set 6-4 but lost the next 3-6 to allow the game to go to the rubber which she won 6-2.
Top seeds Lavinia and Romana of Indonesia were the first pair to advance the doubles final yesterday after easily seeing off Thai pair Nicha Lertpitaksinchai and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul 6-1, 6-2.
They will meet the winner of the second semi-final between second seeds Jessy Rompies and Beatrice Gumulya and South Koreans Han Sung-Hee and Kang Seo-Kyung.
The women’s singles final will be held tomorrow.
Land Development Minister Dato Sri Dr James Masing will close the event.
