PULAU BRUIT, Mukah: All members of Parti PBB Semop division want State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Dato Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar to continue leading the villagers in Pulau Bruit to break away from poverty.

PBB Semop division deputy chairman councillor Shuib Basnu said this in his welcoming speech at a dialogue session on land matters in Madrasah Kampung Tekajong, Pulau Bruit on Wednesday.

Asfia is chairman of PBB Semop division and enjoys a good working relationship with Tanjung Manis MP Datuk Norah Tun Abdul Rahman which is conducive for development and progress.

As such, PBB Semop division appealed to PBB president and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to nominate Asfia to defend his Semop seat in this forthcoming election.

“All PBB members in Semop will work hard to ensure Asfia retain his Semop seat for BN-PBB in this coming election.

“This was to appreciate the capable leadership and wisdom of Asfia and Norah in bringing greater economy development and progress under the caring BN government,” Shuib said to loud applause from the audience who included Penghulu Baidi Mohamed, Kampung Masjid Tekajong village chief KK Kli Rajeli, Kampung Baru Tekajong village chief KK Naili Ali Daud and more than 300 villagers. Shuib commended Asfia, Norah and the BN government for implementing the RM28 million agropolitan project in Pulau Bruit island to provide a regular income for the villagers who are mostly fishermen living in poverty.

Shuib, who is also a board member of Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan Sarawak (PNKS), thanked the government for giving special monthly cash assistance, outboard engines, fishing nets and insulated boxes to all fishermen in Pulau Bruit.

“We are thankful to the BN government for building houses for the poor and needy under Program Perumahan Rakyat Termiskin (PPRT), modern schools and clinics, and building roads and drainage system to improve our living environment,” he said.
