Four vehicles torched

KUCHING: Three cars and an excavator in Seng Goon Garden were set ablaze early yesterday in what appeared to be random acts of arson.

The incidents were  discovered around 4am when one of the house owners heard an ‘exploding’ sound and looked outside her terraced house to see her Perodua Kelisa and her mother’s Perodua Kenari on fire.

She immediately used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, but was unable to save her Kelisa from being badly damaged.

Meanwhile, a Perodua Myvi belonging to a man staying about five houses away from the woman was also set alight at the same time, believed to be by the same persons, causing extensive damage.

The simultaneous torching continued when an excavator, belonging to a work crew, which was parked at a junction near the two houses, had its engine set on fire.

One resident revealed that she heard the sound of a motorcycle with two men on it speeding away from the scene moments after the first car caught fire.

The resident added that none of the incidents appeared to be connected to each other and could not  fathom why anyone would commit such acts of arson.

It was later discovered that egg trays drenched in petrol had been used to start the fires.

Police are investigating the matter.
