KOTA KINABALU:  Sabah’s first and only convention in the state for hobbyists is back in Hobbycon 2010 at the City Mall on Dec 11-12.

Lee proudly shows off the Hobbycon 2010 poster.

It will see a mix of artists, gamers, collectors, magicians, game developers and cosplayers sharing their passion and demonstrating their respective hobbies.

“We have 18 booths this year compared to 12 last year. We are excited to have StartNPlay, a group of independent Sabah game developers, who will be showcasing their demo games to the public for the first time,” said Silverhand Creatives and Events event organiser, Julian Lee, in a statement yesterday.

Among the new participants this year are FishieMoonie Art, LOMO Photography, Mayuri House, Nex Concept Works and Neo Nova Craft Productions.

“We also have Boutique Cupcakes that will be selling anime-themed cupcakes only for the two days of the convention,” said Lee.

Hobbycon favourites such as Team Day Dreamers, Hangmen 1/8 scale figurine collection and retailers will also be back for this year’s convention.

The main highlight will be the solo and group cosplaying competition and a Tekken 6 console gaming competition with prizes to be won.

“This is the first time we are having a Tekken Competition and we are having special guests cosplayers from Sarawak to share their experience with the local cosplayers. We would like to invite members of the public to our annual event to witness the extra in extraordinary or to take the opportunity to learn a new hobby from passionate talents who work hard to make their hobbies known in Sabah,” he added.

Hobbycon 2010 is sponsored by City Mall, Boutique Cupcakes, Gempak Starz, Pine Academy and is supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry as well as the Community Development and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
