Logistics boost for Fifth Infantry Brigade disaster operations

KOTA KINABALU: The Fifth Infantry Brigade in Lokawi yesterday received two units of seven-tonne Tatra trucks and four sets of prefabricated Compact 200 Bailey bridges to boost its disaster operations logistics.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, who also chairs the National Natural Disaster Relief Committee, said they for use in the event of floods, among others.

Two of the Bailey bridges are already in use while the rest are for use in an emergency.

The trucks can move through 1.6 metres of water and large potholes, making them viable during major flood relief operations, said Mohd Nazri.

Speaking to the media after the official handing-over ceremony, he said 10 boats would be delivered to Sabah, in addition to the 20 received by the state fire and rescue department. — Bernama
