AirAsia Statement: Flight AK 5218 Incident in Kuching International Airport

AirAsia flight AK5218 from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching veered off the runway in Kuching International Airport at approximately 2002hrs yesterday night, 10 January 2011. Initial report on visibility was good enough for an approach and landing to be made. The Captain managed to bring the aircraft to a safe stop and carried out a precautionary evacuation in line with company standard operating procedures. All passengers were evacuated safely. AirAsia will carry out a full investigation together with the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

There were 123 guests on board the flight. Four guests were sent for observation as a precautionary measure and were released shortly after. All other guests are safe and have been attended to accordingly.
